Birding by 4 WD, Carmen and heavy rain

Monday, 30. October [English summary of the original text in Danish].

Monday we were on a full day foothill birding-tour on the Caribbean slope. We were birding in Rio Indio and Jordanal areas. We drove on a very narrow and some places very steep dirt road. The 4WD was in use all day.

It was a very hot day with blue sky from the morning but we did see a lot of birds during the trip, eg. several species of hummingbirds – especially the Rufous-crested Coquette is worth mentioning. We saw manakins, trogons and two species of the funny puffbirds.

After lunch, we met Carmen who is establishing an eco-farm tourism business. Se got a short ride in the back of the var and invited us to use her restroom. It was a short but nice visit where we saw her little house and had a short walk on the property.

After some more birding in the afternoon, it was time to head back home. And then it began raining. We are not talking about some nice drissel – No we are talking heavy rain. Fortunately, we managed to get home safe but it shouldn’t have rain lunch more before the river crossings would have been a problem.
