Countdown for our Latin American Timeout

Countdown

Actually, the countdown has been running for a while, and it is “just in a moment” that our Latin American Timeout begins!

We are finally almost ready, we only need to do some last minutes things, like packing the backpacks! But we’ll probably get that done within the next few days (!)

“Countdown?”, “What timeout?” and “What’s that about Latin America?” – some probably are thinking when reading this. Let’s get some facts straight about our timeout.

In short, we (Bente and Uffe) have chosen to take a year off to travel in Latin America for almost a year. We are having a timeout from the common everyday life, where there a no time to do all the things you would like to do. Instead of walking around complaining we had to do something about it.

“Can you do that?” , “Are you allowed to?” and “what will you do?” – you might ask. Yes, you’re allowed to and you can do it. And you should do it when you are able to. And of course, if you want to. We want to and now we do it. This is not an idea that came out of the blue. It is something we for long have been dreaming about, and knew we at some point would do – and that point is now.

What will we do

And what will we do during our timeout? We will do many things – at least that is what our plan is – but it will hardly surprise anyone who knows us, that we will do a lot of birding (or birdwatching). No doubt about that.

Besides birding the first thing we are going to do is to attend a language school in Ecuador. We do not expect to be fluent in Spanish after only four weeks, but hopefully, we learn some of the basics and then learn more the following months. Later we are going to do some voluntary work at the Jocotoco Foundation, who since 1998 have been working to protect the threatened Ecuadorian species and ecosystems.

Everything comes to an end at some point. And our plan is that the Grand Finale, hopefully, will be our third total solar eclipse next year this time in Argentina. Our first total eclipse was in Australia, and the second one was in The USA.

No more is planned so far. We know when and where we will start and we know when we have to be back in Denmark – the rest time will show. We hope to meet many nice and exciting people and get an insight into the Latin American life and culture. We also are looking forward just to enjoy and experience beautiful and spectacular nature.
